The Diversity of Islam

This op-ed is particularly effective in getting Nicholas Kristof's points across. Through the use of a forthright and didactic tone, Kristof argues that while Islamic extremism is a legitimate problem, it is not the "norm" and not a valid excuse for Islamophobia. Examples of religious extremists from all major traditions are given, explaining that at various points in history every religion has had their turn as the villain. This miniature history lesson adds to the overarching educational tone. Being blunt about the "equally repugnant" Christian minister he met in the Congo, and being clear about the "monstrous behavior" of extremist"barbarians" in the Islamic state, Kristof creates a tone that is forthright. There is absolutely no mistaking his opinion on the matter at hand.
